Learn to knit the Star Mitten from Norrfjärden – a historic mitten with an eight-pointed star motif, originally found in a shed outside Piteå in northern Sweden. It gained wide attention in a nationwide mitten exhibition starting in 2016 and is also featured in the book Marknadsvantar.
This pattern is a carefully reconstructed interpretation of the original mitten, which was made by Ethel Johanna Nyström (b. 1908) from the village of Antnäs – a skilled weaver with a strong sense of colour.
The pattern includes clear instructions in two sizes and invites you to choose your own colours. Create your own version and bring this coastal tradition back to life.
