Ruokto is the Sámi word for home. For the Stålka family, however, it is also the place where their roots lie. Ruokto is located along the road west towards Stora Sjöfallet, on the northern shore of Lake Stora Lulevatten. This place and its significance inspired the name of this wool throw.
“Ruokto is where my family belongs. My grandmother’s brother had a goahti there, and my grandparents had a house in Ruokto when I was growing up. In 2004, my father and I built a log cabin there, and in the following summers we built the house overlooking the water. It was there that I taught my son Juhán Niila how to fish. In summer, we picked cloudberries there, and in winter, we ice-fished on the frozen lake.”
– Piera Niilá Stålka, designer at Stoorstålka
The design is inspired by our iconic wool shawls. The throw’s check pattern builds on the same harmonious proportions that characterize our shawls, but in an even larger and more generous format.
The Ruokto wool throw is woven from 100% extra-fine wool, making it a warm, super-soft, and luxurious blanket. A timeless interior detail that feels equally at home in a modern apartment as in a mountain cabin in Sápmi. A blanket created for quiet mornings, long evenings, and the feeling of being where you belong.
